There’s a cup for each Sunday and one for all seasons. We started holding our Sunday morning races at Tooting Bec Lido in 1908. The practice continues to this day, with the Right Honourable Handicapper taking charge, whose dream is that one day we will all touch together. Just being there, we do that anyway.
The Sunday morning races are central to the Club’s sporting and social life, it’s good fun and a great way to catch up with friends and fellow devotees of the Lido, with homemade cakes and coffee in the winter (the café is open in the summer).
The Club holds many other club events including Christmas and New Year races, fun galas against other clubs, a Summer Social, the River Thames swim, training sessions and much more! Club events that are coming up are listed below or posted on the Club notice board at Tooting Bec Lido.
Come and join Tooting Bec Lido regulars for carols and festive songs in the Lido Pavilion from 10 to 11am on Sunday 22 December 2019. Bring festive food to share.
• Christmas Day 10.30am: Women’s race for the Jenny Kinnaird Cup. Followed by the Men’s race for the Burton Cup, SLSC’s oldest cup first competed for in 1908.
• Boxing Day 10am: Icebreakers’ Bucket. The trophy is an original silver plated ice bucket from the Orient Express donated to the Club in 1962.
• New Year’s Day 10am: Willis Cup race. In memory of three generations of the Willis family.
